HOW TO: Provide Requested Logs and CSV Record Files Related to Backups and Restores (Backup My Org)

While troubleshooting, GEO Jobe Support will often request backup logs and CSV record files in order to better diagnose the issues regarding your Backup My Org environment. This article details the process of exporting backup/restore logs and CSV files.

 Obtaining a Detailed Restore Log File and/or CSV Record

  1. From the Backup My Org Home Page, click the “Logs” Icon

  2. You will be prompted choosing either “Backup Logs” or “Restore Logs”. In this example, select the “Restore Logs” option.

  3. After clicking on “Restore Logs”, a results table will appear with all of your restored scans. Click the “View” button in the row associated with the scan result you wish to export.

  4. A breakdown of all of your individual backup/restore will appear. This will include the name of the scan, backup/restore date, completion time, scan status, and all items, groups, and users that were included in the initial scan. There are two buttons on the right side of the screen. They are “Export” and “View Log File”. You will click “Export” button to generate the CSV file for that scan.

     

  5. Once clicked, 4 separate files will be exported to your downloads folder. The download will include:

    1. a CSV file of all backup/restore changes

    2. a JSON file of restore entries

    3. a text file of the restore logs

    4. a JSON file of the scan report

  6. Be sure to convert all 4 of these files into a .zip folder before forwarding this to GEO Jobe’s Support Team (when requested).


 Obtaining Detailed Backup CSV Record Files

  1. From the Home Page, click the “Logs” Icon

  2. You will be directed to a page where you can select “Backup Logs” or “Restore Logs”. For this example, select the “Backup Logs” option.

  3. After clicking on “Backup Logs”, a results table will appear with all of your backup scans. Click the “View” button in the row associated with the scan result you wish to export.

  4. In the upper right corner of the screen, there is a button labeled “Export Backup Log CSV”. Click that button, and you will be prompted to download a CSV File containing the detailed records of all Items, Groups, and/or Users included in the initial backup scan.

  5. When requested, you can forward this file to GEO Jobe Support for further diagnosing of your issue.

 


 Obtaining Detailed Backup Logs

In previous steps, you used the BackupMyOrg to obtain the backup csv file. For backup logs, you will navigate to the location where your backups are saved and look for the individual backup folder. The location of the saved backups can be found a number of ways. They are:

  1. You can check your “Manage Identities” page and view the organization’s identity settings.

    1. Therein, you will see a box that contains the storage type and location for all backups.

       

    2. Find the box for “Storage Type” and “Save Location for Backups and Restores”. This will tell you where to find the folder containing the backed up data.

    3. Navigate to that location, and find the folder that corresponds to the backup in question.


      NOTE: The names of the backup folders will not be the same as what you named the backup within the BackupMyOrg Interface. It is easiest to match the time of the completed backup with the “Date Modified” field on the folder to ensure the correct backup.

  1. From the Home Page, click the “Logs” Icon

  2. You will be directed to a page where you can select “Backup Logs” or “Restore Logs”

  3. After clicking on “Backup Logs”, you will be taken to a screen that shows all of the backup actions undertaken by BMO.

  4. Click “View” next to the Backup action whose file location you wish to obtain.



  5. Click on the blue information icon for any of the listed rows. It does not matter which one.



  6. A dialog window will appear with details about that particular entry. On that dialog box, there will be a value for “<Item/Group/User> Location”.



  7. The alphanumeric character string immediately following the “\\” will be the name of the backup folder.



  8. The alphanumeric character string immediately after the last “/” is that particular item’s backup JSON file. Search for that character in Window’s File Explorer, and it will be in the appropriate backup folder.

  1. You can also reference the restore logs to find the location of the associated backup.

  2. After completing the steps outlined in the previous section: “Obtaining Retore Detailed Log Files and CSV Record Files”, open the “scanReport” JSON file. In this file, there will be an entry/value for “BackupLocation”. That file path will be where the backup associated with that restore is located.

 

  1. When you are able to navigate to your backup folder in the assigned storage location, you will see a JSON file with the following name structure:
    ”<Name of Backup Folder>-backupEntries”

     

  2. Send that file to GEO Jobe Support when asked.
